Seven-Sided Chandelier

During a residency in Detroit, one of the teachers was looking for a clear glass chandelier. Since I was teaching an 8th-grade geometry block, and the teacher liked diamonds, I proposed (no, not with) a lamp in the shape of a very large phantasy diamond. And I made it seven-sided, with pentagons and pentagrams.

There are five simple, basic, regular 3-D shapes in geometry. They are made up of regular 2-D polygons: equilateral triangles, squares and pentagons. They are the tetrahedron (4 equilateral triangles, the cube, or hexahedron ( six square faces), the octahedron, made up of eight regular triangles, the pentagon dodecahedron (12 regular pentagons), and the 20-faced icosahedron (regular triangles). The faces are 2-dimensional and are being combined into 3-dimensional objects. We cannot see four or higher dimensions, but these objects can be described, and made visible as shadow projections! This hyperdodecahedron is such an object: a 4D dodecahedron made visible here in stained glass.
